This is a camp, field trip, or long-class activity which utilizes a technology many students already have with them: camera-equipped phones. Students are sent out with their camera phones to complete as many challenges as they can, each worth a different amount of points. It was sent to us by Romania PCVs Theron LaBounty and Anthony DeJoseph.
The challenges in this version are meant to be used in a city environment, but can be adapted for any other setting.
Rules: Each team will have 2.5 hours to return to “home base” with as many challenges completed as possible.
Each student needs to be in at least 5 photos.
Each photo with a stranger must use a different stranger.
Each picture counts for only one challenge.
The team with the most points wins.
25 – point challenges
- Entire team’s reflection in a window
- The entire team sharing one soda (each teammate has their own straw)
- Entire team jumping (everyone must be in mid-air for the picture to count)
- Entire team picking up litter
- Teammate doing a limbo
- Entire team with an outdoor statue
50 – point challenges
- Giving a stranger a flower
- Your entire team being chased by another scavenger hunt team
- Inside of an elevator
- Teammate leaving bathroom with toilet paper stuck to shoe
- Entire team in front of a sign completely in English
- Two teammates eating opposite ends of a covrig dog (or equivalent local “long” cuisine)
- Picture of the entire team in a bathroom stall
- Teammate slapping other teammate with glove (starting a duel)
- Teammate under light fixture, as if having had a brilliant idea
- Teammate making out with a face drawn on their hand
- Stranger taking a picture of you
75 – point challenges
- Underneath a pharmacy sign with exact time of 12:13
- Entire team sitting in one chair
- A team member proposing marriage to a stranger
- Entire team taking a picture with a baba (old lady) with a headscarf
- Entire team on a spiral staircase
- A team member hugging a stranger
- Entire team doing the human pyramid
- Entire team “I can’t believe we all fit in here!” (25 extra points for the most creative…)
- Entire team standing right next to a motorcycle (25 extra points if biker is in the photo)
- Entire team doing a Hora with at least one stranger
- Entire team wearing tin foil hats
- Team balanced on playground seesaw
100 – point challenges
- Picture of two bearded men together with a team member
- Entire team in the dark with each member shining a flash light on their face
- One teammate jumping off of a swing (he/she must be in mid-air in the photograph)
- Entire team on a slide (one in front of the other)
- Teammate holding 2 other teammates
- Team wearing their clothes inside out
- Team on a wooden bridge
- Entire team standing by a red convertible car
150 – point challenges
- Entire team behind a display window of a retail store acting as a store window display
- 1 member of your team singing to a crowd of 10 strangers in public place
